Can Archos 5 Media Tablet Eat The iPod Touch’s Lunch?

Archos

At Apple’s September 9, 2009 event reviewers and fans alike were surprised by what was thought to be an inevetability#&151;The iPod Touch would be blessed with a video camera and/or still camera. And when the iPod Nano (the Touch’s little runt kid brother) got a cool new video camera, it was thought to be an absolute lock. But it didn’t happen and Apple fanboys around the world went bat sh#t.

So, the iPod Touch doesn’t have a camera. *shrugs*  Now the naysayers are claiming that the Zune HD, which was released earlier this week, may get a foothold in the media player market. Even after the original Zune devices barely put a dent the size of a pebble in Apple iPod sales numbers, the talk persists. Now Archos has upped the ante with a media device that threatens to turn more heads away from iPod’s once and for all.

Let’s take a look at the stats, shall we.

Apple has become too conservative for many user’s taste. With the competition from Microsoft, Archos and other possible heirs on the horizon, Apple had better be wise and take note before their fans throw there own nutcase tea parties.

Microsoft “I’m a PC” Ads Attempt To Hit Apple Where It Hurts—The Wallet

Posted by funkdigital on Apr 10, 2009 in Uncategorized

Microsoft recently released it’s third I’m a PC ad with “real people”. This go around, a mom and son are attempt to find a laptop with “speed, a big hardrive and a good gaming computer,” for less than $1500. Of course, they go look at the Apple Macs and aren’t satisfied with the options. The screens are too small and they’re too expensive… blah, blah, blah. The pair settle on a Sony Vaio with Blu-ray, 16.4 inch screen and a 320GB hard drive. The scuttlebutt is that this is the PC mom and son selected for $899. Sounds like a good buy, right?

The Sony Vaio these paid actors select isn’t going to win any speed awards and its not exactly a gaming PC either. The kid is going to be pretty disappointed when Crysis bombs out. The Centrino processor isn’t gonna cut it.

Like the “I’m a Mac” ads, these are going to get old pretty fast, but what I don’t get is why is Microsoft hyping the laptops. It seems they’ve abandoned their product—Windows Vista, as a lost cause. Plus banging Apple for the whole Apple Tax premise is just disingenuous. Compared to a 15″ or 17″ Macbook Pro, this machine Sony Vaio gets burned. Granted you’re going pay close to $2,000 but you’re gonna get a solid and stable machine that not going to give you those Vista headaches when things just don’t work.
